Nothing wrong with stadium if the team perform well
Today was a great example of the difference in the stadium when we play well. The first half performance created a nervy, edgy, atmosphere that has been common in most home games this season. Second half when the team performed much better led to a terrific loud enthusiastic response. If our team had played this season like last then the satadium would be getting a much better press.
After all when WH were poor at the Boleyn it didn't exactly rock did it.

Got to agree with that.

When the Carroll goal smacked the back of the net that stadium went bonkers.
The stadium lacks a few things but if West ham play well and win games no one will be talking about them.

So now we've won it's because of the stadium? I can't keep up anymore

Plenty of empty seats when we went 2 up. That wouldn't have happened at the Boleyn....

YAY!!! HISTORY STARTS NOW !!! (although must admit I thought it was the Chelsea LC game)....

To be fair 1st half it sounded like the Castilla Home leg in 81... but fantastic ... we have our atmospheric caudlron back

Re: Nothing wrong with stadium if the team perform well
David L, the Boleyn was at least 20,000 less on capacity. Despite what the board say we are not Arsenal and have a 10 yr season ticket waiting list. It takes time to increase your captivity by almost 70% and have all like minded supporters. We're on an upward growth curve, patience is needed.

I miss the Boleyn as much as anyone but that weren't perfect much like the OS. fact is we're stuck with it, it's ours and performances like today can only help make it feel like our new home.

More of the same please.

Good results aren't going to put the fans closer to the pitch or make it a good football stadium. But I agree we need to make the best of it. On the plus side I think it is a genuinely loud place when we get behind the team. I always thought Upton Park had disjointed acoustics since redevelopment.

Jim79 well said.
I loved the Boleyn and I treasure all the great times there but there were plenty of shit "library" moments as well.
After a shit week to top a mostly shit season so far, the crowd got behind OUR CLUB. Backed the manager who we know is a good man. Backed the players as a team unit, not individuals, and they responded by putting in a shift.
No matter who the owners are or what stadium we play in.
And that is proper support.

Yes, I was further from the pitch today than I was at the Boleyn. But I had a great view.
Beer was frigging pricey, having been drinking at the Carpenter's first.
But, aside from a tepid first half, where Palace under BFS were more than happy to not bother attacking, I enjoyed it.
Good amount of Super Slav up where we were. Could still hear the subtle lyrics of the new Payet song that had been chanted religiously by all back in the pub, though not as loud as it might have been. It's difficult to go for such lyrics surrounded by kids, so nods to those who did.
Great result and a team performance.

Re: Nothing wrong with stadium if the team perform well
There were at least 20ft gaps either side of the pitch at the Boleyn following the balls up they made of the Rio stand, something Liverpool have achieved successfully this season with their new stand.

The days of being able to tap a player on the shoulder whilst he was taking a throw in were long gone at UP.

1st goal was a relief 2nd and 3rd were sublime.

It was amazing today.

As every goal went in the stands moved closer to the pitch, the gaps between the upper and lower tiers began to vanish, the huge runway that is supposed to be a technical area got smaller and the stewards all turned into angels.

Good to see some positive comments about the stadium today; it's our responsibility to change the mood.

Relieved when the first went in; astonished when the second went in; laughing when the third went in.

How Swarcock thought Manu was worth a yellow for celebrating with the fans, yet Ledley's studs up lunge on Fegs wasn't a foul is one of life's mysteries.

Yeah the Hocus Pocus knobs are quiet tonight. Probably prodding an OS voodoo doll.

Great performance brought out a better atmosphere, much like the Chelsea game but let's be honest, the stadium doesn't change week by week. It is still shit compared to Upton Park.

Re: Nothing wrong with stadium if the team perform well
Look people don't like change and the change from the old ground to the new was done in one fell swoop. Up until the move I, and fans of my generation, had been used to change that was gradual. I was not a fan at all of our all seater old ground because to me it lacked the atmosphere of the old days epitomised by games like the midweek floodlit victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the seventies.

Give the new place time and you never know a few more performances like this afternoon's might bring a few people round to putting their feelings into a better perspective.
